20: Site visit go Brrrrrr
Site visit this morning, was really cool. The building wasn't very complete, so we didn't get to see much finalized equipment, but we did see some UPSs, Transformers, Switchgear, CRAHs, RTUs, and PDUs. I won't explain what those mean, but they were all parts off of our drawings, so it was really neat to see them in person. The site visit started at 8, a little ways away, so Raymond, the other intern that was going, picked me up at 7, which by company policy, means my clock started at 7! We got to the site at ~7:45, and after some confusion with who we needed to talk to, the engineer we were there with showed up and we got to work. It was a quick site visit, because the site was still so early in the process, it wasn't worth nitpicking every single item to ensure they were all installed correctly, because the installation wasn't finished. I can't share any details, because we're actually under NDA, but we were done with the visit at around 9:45, and then drove back to the office to do real work.
What Raymond and I ended up doing most of the day after we got back was the report of what we had looked at. The engineer we went with took a few hundred photos, and it was on us to sort through them and catalog each room we went into and whether there were any notes about it. It wasn't too bad, and honestly took us longer than it should have, but it's better than doing nothing.
We were voluntold near the end of the day that Raymond and I are actually going to be helping the mechanical team with a project, because they're running up against a deadline, and it's relatively universal CAD (Computer Aided Design) stuff that has to be done. We were told that we would be doing "real, hard work" for the next 2 weeks, which I suppose will be a nice break from doing the crossword and not much else.
I didn't finish the crossword today, because I didn't have time to start it at work, and after I got home I was preoccupied with other things, such as...
