18: Another Day, Another Crossword
My gut reaction to this title was thinking that I had already named one of my posts this, I am truly going to run out of creative titles in the near future. I do, however, do the crossword almost every day. I had a great 13-day streak going until this last Sunday, which was an incredibly difficult puzzle. I only beat the Sunday prior's puzzle with the help of family and friends, hitting it alone is a much greater challenge. Today's crossword took me something like 30 minutes, and I did it at work, between real tasks, so I did have some help from my (also bored) coworkers.
After work I went on a small transit adventure down the silver line to Walmart, where I bought some steel-toed boots for $45. I am truly only going to wear them twice, once this Friday and once next Wednesday, so I wasn't concerned with the quality or longevity of the shoes, so long as they fit the steel-toe requirement. It was my first time riding the metro with my skateboard, and it honestly wasn't too bad.
I need to figure out what to do about my pads if I decide to skate as part of my commute at school, because it takes a good couple minutes to suit up and down, and I don't want to roll up to every class with the sound of ripping velcro and a pile of pads on the desk. I will probably end up wearing just the wrist braces and the helmet, because helmets are an entirely reasonable item for such things, especially on a campus like Cal Poly's, and I live in fear of breaking my wrist, because that would severely hinder my ability to perform most of my hobbies, not to mention schoolwork. There is also a social element to them, I'm not too concerned with being seen as a dork (because that would be an accurate assessment), but I feel like if I wear full pads people are going to expect me to do a sick kickflip, and I can do nothing of the sort. I will definitely keep skating after I get back to school, Cal Poly's campus is perfect for skating, because there's always a hill to climb up or down. I am also going to continue to seriously consider and then eventually maybe actually go through with building a custom skateboard, either a normal one or a custom electric skateboard. I think an electric skateboard (or eskate, as the lingo goes) would be awesome, now that I've learned on a standard skateboard I wouldn't be as worried about it. I knew I couldn't start on an electric board, because I would have been in way over my head very fast, some of those eskates can go 30 or 40 mph, which is still insane to me.
