276: Networks are complicated

This is a surprisingly good look at the setup at Front Porch, with the band and the line for food and the people hanging out :)

Networking is something that I kind of brute-forced learning, and you are actively looking at the fruits of that labor (this blog works because of a bunch of shit that I've built and connected). I have a few friends taking their CPE (computer engineering) Networks class right now, and it's really interesting to talk to them about it, because I just... understand what's going on. I definitely don't understand it at a scholastic level, but I know enough that I can follow everything that they talk about doing, and I can at least conceptualize what their assignments are, which is so cool.

I joke sometimes that I'm glad computers are a hobby of mine and not a job, because some of their classes sound like a nightmare, but I've also hoisted that nightmare upon myself pretty frequently (see every post where the server breaks down), so maybe I'm closer to their level than I think.
