235: Things are over: Game time
I got like 6 hours of sleep, had a bunch of class and stuff in a row, bowled an absolutely insane four strikes in a row (in the 8th, 9th, and 10th frame) to clutch up at the end of the game. It was genuinely insane, and that 5th ball (because I got two strikes on the 10th frame, and had an extra) was a 9, so it was 89 points in five balls (I was at 78 in the 6th frame, which was bad).
The lab today was great, because we were lied to and all did the wrong pre-lab. It actually ended up totally fine, because we got the circuit put together and functional, and we got the whole lab done during the 3-hour section. I spent the extra 30 or so minutes I had grabbing a snack, because I didn't actually eat lunch, so I ate a bunch of chocolate pretzels and had a yummy drink, and I ran into Jack and Sabina at Campus Market, so I sat with them for a few mins and ate my snacks.
The stats midterm went pretty well! I was prepared enough, and I think I did pretty alright. I had an equation written down for all of the things I needed, and I think I understood all of the questions.
After that midterm, I was all done!
Both with the things I needed to do, and with my own quota of stuff-doing for this week. I have some homework I'll do tomorrow, but that's tomorrow, and I had games to play!
The game in question is Marathon, which is a new shooter from Bungie, the company that makes Destiny, the game I probably have the most time and money invested into, out of all of the games. Destiny has been on the back burner for a little while while Bungie works on Marathon, and this weekend is the "server slam", where they're putting out a free version of the game to let people try it, and to make sure the servers are working. It's been pretty good, I played for something like 5 and a half hours today, which is essentially straight after I got home from that midterm, with a break for dinner.
It's been pretty fun, but I have my qualms. I don't think it's very well balanced, honestly, and the actual gameplay is fun, it just feels kinda aimless. I won't explain the entire game and genre here and now, because it's 1 in the morning and I have to be up in like 6 hours, but whether I end up buying Marathon (it's $40, and launches next Friday) will depend on if Cody and I end up playing it together. My dad did alright with it, but it's not really his style, or honestly my style. As he put it when we played tonight, "it's a game about dominating other people, and that's not really my thing". It's a mostly PVP (player-versus-player) game, which means you're up against real humans, which also means you lose a lot of the time, which sucks, frankly. Losing also has a lot of serious consequences, because you lose the run, and all of the loot you had on you / took in with you.
It is an absolutely beautiful game though. My big fancy monitor I got for christmas is amazing for this, and I've honestly loved playing it just for the atmosphere and the graphics.
I also want to mention the sound design, because it's so good. I played the game mostly with in-ear monitors (fancy earbuds), and the directional sound is really really nice. It's obvious (once you learn the difference) to tell whether the footsteps you're hearing are NPC (non-player character) enemies or players, and which direction they are, even with up-down directions.
That's about all for today though, I need to get to sleep so I can play more games (and do my homework 😦) tomorrow.
