158: Monitor 😢
I think my monitor has given up the ghost, but only the part that I use the most.
I used my monitor a little bit this morning before my 1-3 final, went to the 1-3 final, actually did pretty well despite not studying at all, and then when I got home the monitor fully just didn't work. I tried multiple USB-C cables and laptops to ensure it wasn't one of those things that was causing the issues, but nope. The USB-C input on my monitor has seemingly given up entirely, which sucks rocks.
The USB-C input is like half the reason I own this monitor. It does both video and power, so I can plug in my laptop with only one USB-C cable and get full connectivity, as well as charging my laptop. It's also a USB hub, so I could plug my mouse, keyboard, and card reader (for my camera) into the monitor, and then they would just work, all through that one cable.
I am typing this up on the very same monitor, but I'm now using a bluetooth keyboard, bluetooth mouse, and two cables (I pulled an extra charger from my electrical stuff drawer and set it up), which is significantly less efficient and useful.
I'm going to make it work for the next week, but I'm not putting up with this in the long-term, so something is going to have to be done.
This monitor is still great with the other two inputs, so I should be able to sell it for some amount of $ and replace it. That's a whole new ball game though, because I've been thinking about upgrading my monitor for a while, I would like a nicer one, and if I'm replacing this one, I might as well replace it, right? That's gonna be later me's problem. I'll deal with it in January, for now I'm just kinda sad about it.
I don't have much more to report for today. I did print out, clean up, and put together one of my 3D-printed pulleys for my longboard, and I think they'll work, but 45 teeth is significantly larger than 40, so it puts the motors too close to the truck again. I've got the other one on the printer right now, I might take it apart tomorrow and sand down the truck to the point that that's no longer a problem, because I'm tired of dealing with it, and I should be able to sand that down enough that it doesn't interfere, without sacrificing any structural integrity.
I'm hoping the larger pulleys increase my torque and range, because it'd be really nice, and I'd only be giving up the high speeds, which I don't really use anyway. I have gotten more comfortable on the board, so I can cruise at ~25MPH now, but I won't be going 35 on this board for sure. The carbon board should be more stable, because it'll be longer, so maybe I'll reconsider for that, but 25MPH is honestly more than enough for me.
