144: Locked in with Cody
Today was great.
I woke up at like 12, showered, and then had to mess with my smart home system a little bit, because I updated it last night, and one of the parts of the voice command pipeline doesn't work anymore. I don't know exactly why, but the speech-to-text section (that parses what I'm actually saying to the microphone) stopped getting recognized by the system, so it failed to use it. There's an older and not insignificantly worse version that ended up working, but I have to separately enunciate each word a lot more carefully, which is fine I guess. I'll just keep an eye on it, because it'll probably get fixed in the near future.
I met Cody at the library at like 1:15, and we did schoolwork for like 4 hours, before getting kicked out at ~5 (the library is 24/7 on the 1st and 2nd floors, but we were on the 3rd), and going back to my room.
Cody finished up the problem he was on, and then he sat at my desk and I set myself up on the projector for some Destiny, which was really fun.
Destiny is a really interesting microcosm of game, because it's both kind of terrible, and absolutely irreplaceable. Bungie (studio that makes Destiny) has biffed a significant number of things in recent days, but the game continues to be unmatched in feel and gameplay, so I can't just leave it behind, because there isn't anything else capable of taking its place.
The new expansion comes out a week from tomorrow, and I have high hopes that it'll be good. I have so many good memories of Destiny, and it's genuinely such a good time, especially with my friends and family (my dad plays, and my brother plays when we make him join us sometimes).
My dad was also on when Cody and I were, so we got together for one of the events, which was a lot of fun. Hopefully I have time to play the new expansion with both or each of them, because they're currently the people I play with.
I'm on call tomorrow, and phone pickup is at 10AM, so I should try and get some sleep (it's 12:22AM). I fully expect absolutely nothing to happen tomorrow, but I still have to be there for walks and just in case.
Update post-post, because it's now 1:03, but I just talked to Katelyn, one of my best friends, who is studying abroad in Spain right now. The timing lined up (ish), so we video-called over Signal (shoutout Signal, it's great) and talked for a while, which was awesome. I've been genuinely missing seeing her around campus, and it'll be so nice to have her back in January.
