134: Massive Flavor Win
This one I'm going to be very quick with, because I've had a great day, but I need to be up in like 7 hours to present at our Preliminary Design Review for wind power, which is tomorrow at 9 AM! (that's 8.5 hours from now).
The ATLA (that's Avatar: The Last Airbender) prerelease went absolutely fantastically, I love the show, and the set they made out of it is just so good.
The title of the post is a reference to a Magic: The Gathering term, wherein something you do in the card game makes "flavor sense". The term derives from "Flavor Text", which is the lore or story-based reasoning for a card to exist. A "flavor win" is when the flavor of a card matches really well with the actual function of a card. For example, Momo's Heist, above, steals an artifact from your opponent, which is functional, and matches something that Momo would actually do (it helps that the art is stellar). ATLA (the Magic set) is FULL of these flavor wins, on just about every card they made. I'm honestly so happy with how it turned out, because I am a huge fan of the Avatar show, and the magic set coming all together is such an amazing experience for me.
I went 3-1 (3 wins, 1 loss) at the event, so the deck I built played decently well, and I'm really excited to build a commander deck around it in the next few weeks.
The midterm I had on Wednesday also evidently went well, I got a 12/15, which when curved, is like a 90%, which is great. If I'm understanding the grading of that class right, I don't even have to take the final! (he drops your lowest test grade, and I did well on the two midterms, so if the "lowest" is zero, it doesn't even matter!).
I didn't do much else than homework and Magic today, but that's okay, because I got the homework done, and Magic was freaking awesome.
Now I'm going to go get my <7 hours of sleep. I have energy drinks in my fridge I can have in the morning, so I won't be a zombie during design review, and the Power team is going first, so I'm not too worried about it.
