370: Rest, and an adventure

I slept almost exactly 12 hours last night, and it was lovely. That timing was approximately 2AM to 2PM, which is definitely silly, but I didn't have anything required of me today, so it didn't matter.

I had resolved to spend today doing exactly zero work, and I wanted to go on an adventure, so that's exactly what I did.

The original goal of my adventure was to take pictures, and I did do that (I processed them already, 118 good ones from today), but I also took a couple detours. I was originally going to go to the camera store here in town, because I've been on the fence about buying another lens, and now would be an honestly great time to do so.

When I got to the camera store, though, it wasn't open 😦. It was supposed to open at 4:30, so I waited until ~4:40, but then gave up and just kept walking.

I decided to then make the trek to the FLGS, the Friendly Local Game Store, which is a Magic: The Gathering term, but seems to me a pretty self-explanatory one. The two stores are opposite directions from my apartment, so it was a solid 35 minute walk between them, but that was alright. I took a bunch of pictures while I was walking, and got to know more of the city.

The local game store perfectly fits the vibe and style of all the local game stores I've been to in the past, and the guy working it was super friendly. It's a space that I'm really comfortable in, even though it's a new FLGS, they're all iterations of the same thing, and it's a place that I can exist in comfort.

I spent a minute looking around, because my real goal was to get a deck in Italian, so I figured my best bet there was a precon (short for preconstructed; meaning a deck that the company put together for me), but every precon on the shelf was in English. I asked the guy and he said that they don't make as many in Italian anymore, and since everyone speaks English anyways it's not a huge deal, but we could figure it out. He had a few loaner decks made of old precons that belonged to the store in Italian, so I got an already-sleeved but still complete in it's original form deck, and I couldn't be happier with it. The cards are simply more expensive here, but I payed 100💶, but the cards themselves are worth more than that (something to the tune of $200), and I was happy to pay it to support the store, and it was already sleeved and ready to play.

I hadn't planned on it, but since I now had a deck, I figured I might as well play! I asked if/when they hosted commander nights (that's the format of the deck I got, I think I've explained it before, but probably a while ago), and he said Wednesday and Friday nights, so I'm for sure going to go. I went through every card after I got home to make sure I knew all of the relevant words, because there are a bunch of Magic-specific words that you've kinda just gotta know. I'll read through them all again on Tuesday or Wednesday, because this is going to take a little practice. I'm really looking forwards to playing; it's been almost 4 months since the last time, and doing it in Italian is going to be a fun little challenge.

I was also thinking today that I should become a local in some places, and I think this is my pick; I can go to 6 commander nights between now and heading home, so I will.
