338: Problems; Solutions
Today was super duper chill, but it was a little overshadowed by the days to come.
El and I essentially just played Terraria today, and it was fantastic. We got up at like 11 and got brunch at 1901 kitchen (amazing, by the way). When we got back we started playing Terraria, and I came in and out as I debated doing some actual studying for 329 tomorrow and got distracted by a whole number of other things.
One of the other things that distracted me from the beginning was the new Destiny 2 update, which is kinda actually amazing. It's really bittersweet that the final update to this game is a really good one, because there have been so many not really good ones, and this one is a banger.
They're doing a "Monument of Triumphs", which is similar to the "Moments of Triumph" they did each year before the new expansion dropped, but designed to be permanent, because this is the last update. I have the shirt from every single Moments of Triumph except for last year's (I missed it and am actually kinda sad about it, but there's nothing to be done), and they're doing a new earnable shirt for Monument of Triumphs, so I'm gonna earn the damn thing.
I booted up the game today half expecting to just be handed the shirt (that's what happened last year, and I think it's part of why I didn't order it, I forgot because it took me no effort to earn), but none of the requirements are retroactive this time, which I think is for the better, but it means I now have my work cut out for me.
I think I technically have until September 30th to earn it, but I'm not going to want to be doing it that long-term, because I will forget. I'm going to earn (and order!) that shirt in the next month or so, but it threw a little bit of a logistical wrench into my systems.
Destiny 2 is an annoying cross-platform game, in that it doesn't transfer ownership of the expansions across platforms, so in the past I have only owned the DLCs on my Xbox, and everywhere else I've been playing the free version. The free version of Destiny 2 is okay, but especially for the purposes of doing a series of difficult challenges to earn a shirt, I'm going to need access to everything, both armaments wise and content wise.
That's where my old friend the STEAM SALE comes in. Destiny 2 launched "Destiny 2: The Collection" today, which is a single purchase that includes every single expansion (that's still around at least, they're missing the first five campaigns because you can't play them anymore), and I don't know what it'll cost once it's no longer on sale, but for the next week it's $26!
So I bought it on Steam.
This serves a couple purposes honestly, I'd wanted to see Destiny 2 on my fancy new monitor, because it looks incredible, and it takes really good advantage of my graphics horsepower. Destiny 2 is nothing if not a beautiful game, and being able to run it at high settings and at a high framerate on this amazing display, if only for the next few days, is going to be amazing.
The main purpose that it serves, though, is that I can leave my Xbox here. I hadn't been planning on taking my Xbox home or to Europe, because the only real attachment I still had to it was the Destiny 2 expansions. They were previously too expensive to justify cutting that tie, but with the sale today I'm finally able to play all of my games on my laptop, which is honestly wonderful.
I don't have my steam controller yet, but once I get it (sometime this summer probably) I'll be completely divorced from the Xbox ecosystem, which will honestly be quite nice. Having all of my gaming on the device I already use for everything else makes my life simpler, and makes for less switching of cables and pairing of controllers: I can just use my laptop.
