349: Paint Tent!

Today was pretty great.

I had to get up decently early to take my dad to work, since we were operating with relatively few vehicles and lots of places to be (Claire was at work, Dad had to go to work, and I had to go to work).

I used the trip to justify an out-of-the-way drive to a different branch of the library than I usually go to, because the book I was in search of wasn't stocked at the main branch of the city library.

I'm making El read The Black Prism with me, which is the first book in the Lightbringer series. It's really important to me, because I read it during some pretty formative years, and I read it with my dad the first time, so I'm really excited for her to read it. It is one of those series I read as a kid, but it seriously holds up. I probably shouldn't have been reading it when I was like 11, but I do think it was a good thing for me; I learned a lot, and gained a serious appreciation for well-built magic systems, like the one in this book.

I really hope we can burn through the first one together while she's here, because she's here for less than 5 days (114 hours or so, to be exact), so we're gonna have to dedicate some time to it. I think if we don't get swamped with too many family matters and other things we can definitely finish it, but it's also alright if we don't. I have the book on Kindle, so I can keep reading it, and I would be more than happy to buy a physical set to send with her, or source a copy on the seven seas.

I got to try my first of the heretofore unseen Monster flavors, the dark purple "Wild Passion", which was quite good. I should have taken notes at the time, because all I've got right now is "good". It wasn't life-changing like the Mango Loco flavor is, but it also wasn't the worst I've had.

I burned some time at home, and then had to head to work through some serious rigamarole.
