342: The Speed of Life

342: The Speed of Life
Look how happy this Subaru is!

The title today came from an interview with Robin Williams that I watched as part of a larger video essay today; I loved the idea behind it.

He was talking about the animators at Disney in an interview about the movie Aladdin, an absolute classic, and arguably one of Robin Williams' best performances. I don't remember if this is true, but I remember hearing that he didn't even have a script for most of the movie, he was just being himself. The quote was specifically complementing the way that the animators were able to capture the dynamicism and energy that Williams brought to the role, he said that "they were moving at the speed of life", which is a description I adored.

It doesn't really apply to today in any particular way, but I feel like it applies to my life as of recent, the way that I've spent my time and set up my priorities has been to maximize my life, not to maximize any external quantity or metric. This quarter (which it's finally setting has ended as I deconstruct and pack away my room for the summer) has been unquestionably the best I've had yet (I can actually say the best quarter ever, since it's Semesters when I come back).

Sometimes I think I use those mid-sentence parenthesis too much; does it make the blog harder to read?

Anyway, today was pretty simple, but also pretty good. I did very little packing before this morning, but I have most of it done as I'm writing this. I even went so far as to put my desk setup away, so I'm typing this on my laptop alone; fancy monitor and big stinky graphics stashed away.

I'm leaving my stuff in Sabina's apartment for the summer (huge shoutout Sabina), which is going to work great. I'd never been to her apartment, but she gave me one of her spare keys, and there's tons of space in there, so everything should fit just fine.

My dad and I made a couple trips, moved probably 2/3 of the stuff today, the rest of it we can move tomorrow.

We got TSCE (Taqueria Santa Cruz Express) for dinner, which was baller. I learned why you don't fix it when things aren't broke again: I changed which burrito I ordered and it was worse (but still good) than the one I normally get.

After that we went back to mine and played some video games: my dad on my xbox (via projector) and me on my laptop at my desk, which was honestly awesome. We haven't played Destiny 2 together in a hot minute, so it was great. We'll do a lot more gaming while I'm home I'm sure.

After my dad left (around 10) I did some more gaming, and then talked to Brian and Emily (they're on call), and then called El. I cleaned up my desk while I was talking to her, and it was really nice. Only 9 days, 9 hours, and 56 minutes until I can see her again. I am counting that based on the alleged landing time of her flight in Salt Lake next Tuesday, so there's a plus or minus 10 minutes there, but that's impossible to factor for.
