319: Loss is a difficult thing
The title today is in reference to a post that was made by Bungie, the company that makes Destiny 2, the single video game in which I have the most hours (it's not close).
We (the Destiny community) had known for a while that Destiny 2 has essentially been put on life support. I talked about it in one of my blog posts a little while back, but the way that Bungie (and Sony, who bought them a year or two ago) have handled things is truly baffling. Much of the team at Bungie was rerouted to work on Marathon years ago, and it's been relatively clear from the progression of quality (and lack thereof) from Destiny 2's latest expansions that the game was dying out, and especially since Marathon launched, been put on the back burner.
This would be a different conversation if Marathon was successful, but it really wasn't, and while I think it's a good game, it's not one that I'm going to be spending a lot of time playing unless there are serious changes made to the core gameplay loop. I'll spare this post the whining about Marathon, because I've done it before.
Meta-commentary here: the system I use for this blog really doesn't have a very good method on my end to search through posts, which is annoying. There is a search function, but it only searches titles, so it doesn't do me much good. I know I talked at some length about the disappointment that Marathon was to me a week or two ago, but there's no way for me to find that information short of reading through every single post I've made, which is also not a quick task. I don't know if any of you (the readers) have ever had to deal with this, but there's no next post or previous post buttons, and I know if I was a reader I would get annoyed about it. They don't exist on my end either, if I have to search for something that shit is done manually, and it annoys me. Surely there's a way for the computing power at my disposal to be turned towards this use case, it's just not in the system.
